This bouquet was all about the scent.

I was watering the plants in the shop this morning & was getting wafts of lavender and geranium and realised how scent is so evocative. This wedding was certainly all about scent...

Setting the Marquee up was fabulous as the table-centres were planted buckets of French & English lavender, put that with some very gorgeous and blousey peonies and elegant sweet-peas and I was in heaven.

I'll let you into a secret....

A week looking forward

Monday

A rather lovely email popped into our in-box from one of our Groom's. He wanted to send a bouquet of flowers to his wife for their 1st year anniversary. He sent us a rather gorgeous photo which I couldn't possibly show you because it might just spoil the surprise. We are going to replicate her bridal bouquet ~ what a thoughtful Husband!

Tuesday

Tuesday is the day for stocking Hartley Farm-shop up with fabulous flowers. We have a rather marvellous stand on the way in to the farm-shop where you can pick & choose your chosen flowers.










Wednesday

It's been a week of birthday bouquets! We had an order from New Zealand, one of our Brides wanted to send flowers to her Mum in Bradford-on-Avon and that I guess is the joy of technology.Do remember you can always order online if your not able to pop into the shop.










Thursday

Thursday is always delivery day for flowers to Newton Farm-shop. We have now been selling flowers there for the last couple of months and its going to extremely well! So if you are in their neighbourhood and want to treat yourself to some yummy flowers, you know what to do.










Friday

Is wedding prep day. From table-centre's to thank-you bouquets. There is always a whole host of lovely flowers to arrange! Both the Shop & workshop are normally full to the brim of different creations. One thing I love about my job is that no two weddings are the same!









Saturday

Weekends are always meeting time for us at this point in the year. And this week is no exception, from a couple getting married on the 31st December at the ever gorgeous Homewood park hotel to a lovey summery wedding at the delightful Wick Farm. We always have coffee together in the Farm-shop, chatting about the wedding. Deciding on colours, browsing through our portfolios and seeing what the possibilities are.









Sunday

Sunday is most certainly the day for collapsing in a heap! Whether it's having a roast with friends at one of our favourite pubs or hanging out here on a Sunday morning! It's definitely a day for taking it easy!

An apple a day....

Well, I'm sitting at my very untidy desk eating a bit of leftover sausage-roll from here and have a nice mug of herbal tea on the go. The sun is shining and  I'm all prepared to write!I can't believe October is here and as much as we British do moan about the weather, I can't help loving the crisp Autumn mornings and warm jumpers, building log fires and generally sleeping lots *wishful thinking*!

I did promise a selection of photos from one of our Summer Brides and  here they are! Rachael (the Bride) sent through a beautiful selection of photos from her day and I've been dying to show them to you all!

The bouquet had a very elegant and modern feel to it, though a touch rustic with the hessian tie on the stems.

The flowers were a selection of creamy avalanche roses, gorgeous ivory cymbidium orchids, green 'chartreuse' roses, guelder roses (vibernum opulus-for those in the know) and bear-grass loops. 

The wedding ceremony & reception were held in the Tythe Barn at Priston Mill. The barn is a fantastic venue as the high ceilings give the space a very airy feeling! Plus lovely tall table arrangements like Rachael had work like a dream!

Our wedding day turned out to be all we hoped for and more; the sun shined all day long! The planning seemed to go smoothly with us doing lots some weeks and nothing the next. Young Blooms were recommended to us by a friend and they didn't disappoint. A bright Irish green was our colour theme and we were happy to give Grace & Laura free reign on what flowers to use; they are the experts after all  We googled lots of the flowers after our initial meeting and were happy with the choice. We originally wanted limes in the vases and only added the idea of apples a few weeks prior to our big day. We were really pleased that they decided to use rustic apples as opposed to Granny Smiths; the end result was wonderful! We thought our venue had the 'wow factor' on the day and much of this was due to the flowers. Thanks again ladies!

Loving the weekends.....

Well, I have to say I have loved this weekend. Driving back from the flower market along the country lanes I couldn't resist taking this photo. It was a proper Autumn morning and the sunrise was absolutely stunning.

I could wax lyrical about how cute the horses looked but actually its all about the flowers!!

Three weddings this weekend and they couldn't have been more different if they tried.

I think the bouquet below was my favourite of them all, the three types of roses contrasted beautifully with the hot pink freesia and the mixed herbs added to the beautiful scent.



                                                             

                                                                                                                                                                            I know I said it was all about the flowers but amid all the hustle and bustle my delightful cat as seen below got herself into another tiff and currently will not leave me alone, so whilst I am trying to be awfully witty and delightful she has draped herself elegantly across and if I so much as moved she growls in a most disturbing cat like way!! Ho hum.....

The wedding this morning was a family affair and well and truly all about the sunflower. A gorgeous dark blue for the bridesmaids and bright yellow of the sunflowers really set the venue up for a fantastic day!!

The wedding was held at orchardleigh and we decorated the stunning staircase with hand-tie's of sunflowers and draped organza up the banister, finishing it all off with trailing ivy. Making a perfect entrance for the bride.

Treats are a girls best friend

Well, as we have already done the first week back to work I wonder how its been for you??
I think we have both found that treats have been the way to get through for us!! This involved having nice massages, buying a copy of this months Country Living, & having nice coffee at the Fat Fowl in Bradford and as a reward for clearing the house and workshop of Christmas leftovers, I filled it with our beautiful fresh flowers.
It's also been a week for planning & looking at the year to come. We are both excited because following the success of our Christmas wreath workshops, we are planning more workshops later in the year -  dates and details are being firmed up so we will let you know once they are confirmed.


Valentines Day & Mother's Day surprises are both in the bag as well so look out for the delicious designs that will be filling our workshop!!


Weekly arrival from the Isles of Scilly


We have begun getting our weekly delivery of scented Narcissus from the Isles of Scilly - they are certainly good for the soul when its tipping down with rain, so do come and pick some up at Hartley Farmshop as they are on special offer for a limited time.
